The first ever Eid celebration was held at the Scottish Parliament where around 70 Muslims were invited to lunch with the First Minster Alex Salmond and the first Muslim MSP Bashir Ahmad.

Mr Ahmad said, ‘Eid is such an auspicious occasion enjoyed by over a billion Muslims worldwide. We are overjoyed that this new Government in the Scottish Parliament has joined us in our celebrations.’

Mr Salmond said, ‘I may be Scotland’s new First Minister but Bashir Ahmad and I are old friends. In Scotland, we appreciate and value the contribution of the many shades and strands of the Scottish Tartan.’
