Out of school
Thursday, November 8th, 2007. Filed under - Sport.October school holiday sports day for six enterprising Out-of-School care groups ended with all 110 young people receiving a medal from Community Police officers Kenny Neal and David Kennedy.
Held in Toryglen’s Geoff Shaw Centre, the day introduced the youngsters to orienteering, megaball, skipping and other less usual games. But football ruled as far as most of the boys were concerned – especially as the event was held on the date Scotland was due to play Georgia.
Body combat, boxercise and dance were all tried and proved popular with quieter arts and crafts sessions finishing off the day. Apart from the medal, each child received a certificate and a goodie bag containing, among other things, a toothbrush.
Said Karen McCormack, Chair of the Child Care Forum, ‘The day has gone brilliantly. The kids and the staff have all enjoyed themselves with a good mix of activities.’ Added one of the helpers, ‘This is also a great way for us to network with people from the other groups.’
Involved were: TASS from Toryglen, TASK from Gorbals, GAP from Govanhill and Out of School Care from Shawlands, Langside and Battlefield.
