Join the police day

Thursday, November 8th, 2007. Filed under Pollokshields.

Around 50 applications forms were handed out at a Stathclyde Police Recruitment Day at East Pollokshields Multi Cultural Centre (EPMCC), last month.

The day was organised by the police and SEMPER Scotland, to encourage more black and minority ethnic (BME) people to join the ranks.

Sergeant Faroque Hussain, from Bishopbriggs Police Office and also on the Executive Committee of SEMPER Scotland said, ‘Only 135 out of 7895 police officers and 61 out of 3376 support staff in Strathclyde are BME.  We aim to raise awareness of the  benefits of a police career among people in this group.’

Chief Inspector Neil Kerr of Recruitment said, ‘This has been one of our busiest days. We want to reach out and show that the police force offers real career paths.’
