At 26, she has just opened her fourth Domino Pizza store – on the site of the former KwikSave at Shieldhall Road. Only half a dozen women – in the world – have six Domino Pizza franchises. ‘I aim to have six,’ said the diminutive boss.
Starting as a schoolgirl working in a Domino’s part time, Lisa continued through her university days. ‘I realised that I enjoyed the hands-on, fun atmosphere of Domino’s and dropped out of university before I finished my degree. My parents were disappointed at first and that made me even more determined to succeed.’
Lisa become the company’s Manager of the Year in 2002 then opened her own franchises in Ayr, Kilmarnock and Clydebank. ‘That was a big challenge,’ she said.
An ambassador for the Princes’ Trust, Lisa shows young people that running a business is a good career option.
This work so impressed Domino that she was awarded a Gold Franny – an internal prize only given to a handful of Domino franchisees worldwide each year.
In Govan, only two staff are not local and Lisa is looking for more local people to complete her team of 30.
Another 26-year-old has also launched into the fast food business. John Hollis has bought the fish and chip shop at Dougrie Drive in Castlemilk. ‘With my partner Clare , Mum Sandra and Dad John, we’ve worked hard every day for six months to bring the shop to the level I think it should be at,’ said the mortgage advisor.
I lived round the corner as a boy and knew it as a very good chippy.’ He’s retrained staff and introduced his own line of pizzas and home made soups and paninis. ‘We’re into healthy eating and make our own pizza bases.’
