Stars of the South

Two teenagers from the Southside won the Stars of the South grand finale at Carling Academy recently.

The winners were, Anna Imfura from Arden and Hayley McGill from Kingspark. They formed ‘Just The 2 Of Us’ and will be recording a CD.

This was the third annual event and attracted more than 40 young people aged from 12 to 16.
The participants enjoyed a week-long intensive fame academy training event at Holyrood Secondary School during the school holidays.

The aim was to build personal and social skills and included guidance on drug and alcohol misuse, sectarianism, racism, territorialism, gang culture and bullying among other issues.

The organisers were Strathclyde Police, East Renfrewshire Council, Glasgow City Council and Culture & Sport,Glasgow.

Constable Michelle Pashcke, a community safety officer based at Pollok Police Office said, ‘The personal and social development programme provided these young people with a lot of information which will hopefully influence future behaviour and attitudes and will allow them to make positive life choices.’
