Doing the scotty dog

Thursday, October 4th, 2007. Filed under Shawlands.

Shawlands Primary school children recently enjoyed a training session with junior jogscotland’s mascot, Jog Scotty.

The seven foot Scotty dog character is promoting Scottish Co-operative’s junior jogscotland – a Scottish Athletics initiative which encourages children to take up running based sports and become more active. Aimed at ages 7-11 the programme can be adapted for any age group.

The pupils received resource packs which were delivered by Henry Jackson, store manager at Shawlands. He said, ‘The scheme is not about creating top athletes but about encouraging every child to enjoy physical activity.’

Head Teacher Elaine Hutton said, ‘We are keen to encourage all the pupils to embrace a healthy lifestyle as part of our Health Promoting School Initiative and are sure the jogscotland resource pack will encourage more children to participate and enjoy physical activity.’
