Josie Livingstone MBE is chairperson of the Centre. She said, ‘It has been a long time coming and now we can finally expand. I really love the new building.’
The Centre had been in a tenement flat in Dougrie Drive since 1985. The flats were in a bad condition and are about to be demolished.
The 14 staff are kept busy dealing with around 1,500 customers. The main problems are housing, debt, employment, benefits, disability rights and women’s rights.
Angus McIntosh, one of the principal solicitors, said, ‘We are very thankful to the Credit Union who have managed to give us space. We are happy with the new premises which are more modern and welcoming than previously. Hopefully, this will become our permanent home.’
