Our Environment
Thursday, September 6th, 2007. Filed under - Regular columns.September is an exciting time for the Greater Govan Environment Trust. On Saturday September 8, along with Sunny Govan Radio, we will promote two great local community events focussing on the environment and environmental justice.
MSP Nicola Sturgeon will launch Govan GREENZONE, the environment fair for local communities, at 12 noon in Elder Park. It will go on till 4pm.
Then, from 7 pm till midnight in the Pearce Institute, will be Live 8th Govan, a night of live music to promote environmental justice locally.
Govan Greenzone this year will have fun for all the community. Many projects and organisations will be in marquees putting out a green message to help us become more environmentally aware.
Youngsters will have workshops to make jewellery out of waste and paint glassware. Wood turning specialists, the Bullwood project, will demonstrate their skills as will local project GalGael.
Help on using environmentally friendly materials and paints for DIY projects will be given and Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Waste Awareness Group will advise on recycling and composting kitchen waste.
Starter Packs Glasgow are running the Greenzone Free Shop where things which can be re-used will be available – FREE! Come and collect a bargain.
Sunny Govan Radio’s live roadshow will be in the afternoon, led by Steg G with a number of the station’s presenters and the Environment Trust’s very own Ken Bussey who will play his favourite music from the 50s and 60s.
On the bill at the PI will be San Toy, Futuro, the Sunny G Reggae Crew, Acoustic Butterfly, Steg G and the Freestyle Master. Headlining are local band JAAD (formerly Scheme). Over-18s event only because of the bar. Tickets are £5 per person from Sunny Govan Radio Statio, 249 Govan Road and you’ll have the change to pledge your support for local environment campaigns.
