Grandfather wanted
Thursday, September 6th, 2007. Filed under - South Side.A Councillor in Eastleigh in Hampshire has appealed to the LOCAL NEWS for help in her search for her birth father who came from Glasgow.
‘I want him to know he has two beautiful, intelligent grandchildren,’ said Jenny Head. ‘And I would like them to know their grandfather.’
She went on, ‘If my dad – Robert John Lane – should read this appeal, I’d like him to know my search has been a long one. I’d like to meet him and I don’t have any expectations. I realise that almost 33 years have passed and that he will have a life of his own, but I hope there is room for a few more people in that life.’
Jenny’s mother Doris Nalepinski met Robert in 1973 in her native Germany.
‘She was 17 and he was about 23 and a rifleman in the British army stationed in either Bergen or Scheun. When my mother fell pregnant with me, he asked her father for permission to marry her. ‘But they didn’t get married and my mother met another soldier. They married and moved to the UK. She did bump into my father again in 1975 in Germany when she told him my name and may even have given him a photo of me.’
But Jenny emphasised that she would understand if her father did not wish to be contacted. ‘In that case, all I ask is that he lets the LOCAL NEWS know so that I can give up the search which has become a life mission for me.’
Should anyone know about Robert John Lane, they are asked to contact the LOCAL NEWS by phone on 0141 226 4898 or email: localnews@btconnect.com.
