As the LOCAL NEWS went to print, a high level conference was being held at Eastwood Park Theatre to examine the contribution Muslims have made to Scotland.

Following recent events at Glasgow airport and in London, the aim was to bridge the gap between the Muslim and Scottish communities.

The two day meeting included speeches by  Nicola Sturgeon, Deputy First Minister; Graeme Smith, Secretary General of the STUC;  Egyptian-born Dr Jamal Badawi and Shaikh Abdullah Hakim Quick and Shabir Ally, both visiting from the United States.
