Holiday education

Last month, over 150 children from Castlemilk played street football, Playstation, Xbox and were on the internet during the school holidays to help to keep them out of trouble.

Castlemilk Anti-Disorder Initiative (CADI), is a joint programme organised between Strathclyde Police and Strathclyde Fire & Rescue to target the places where there are very high levels of gang fighting, drinking and vandalism.

Through taking part in the football they have to work in teams which can create respect and a better understanding of each other.

They operate every Thursday and Fridays in various areas from 12 July until 17 August and open to boys and girls aged between 12-17 years old.

Sergeant Austin Gaughan from Cathcart Police Office said, ‘We also try to promote a healthier lifestyle and offer support and advice on drink and drugs and the negative impact this can have on them.

‘It is also a good chance for us to learn about what is happening to the children in their areas.’
Neil Galloway, Station Manager at Castlemilk Community Fire Station, said, ‘We are delighted to be supporting this important project. As we are seen as role models this a great way of keeping the youngsters interested and at the same time educating them about respect and tolerance.’
