Walk the trail
Thursday, July 12th, 2007. Filed under - South Side.South Glasgow Heritage and Environment Trust and Glasgow City Council are pleased to announce the recent publication of the eagerly awaited Southern Necropolis Heritage Trail.
This fascinating guide offers everyone a unique insight into some of the characters buried within Gorbals’ very own ‘City of The Dead’. In conjuction with on-site grave markers the book allows the visitor a more user-friendly experience.
The flat layout of the Southern Necropolis makes the route an easy going ‘walk round’, although care should be taken when walking through or near the monuments. Visitors are asked to remember they are within hallowed ground which contains the remains of over 250,000 individuals and as such should treat the place respectfully.
It is a pity that some vandals don’t have that respect as they destroyed many of the markers within hours of them being set into the ground.

The Trail booklet can be picked up at City Council locations, or send your details and two first class stamps to S.N. Trail Request, SGHET, 170 Queen`s Park Drive, Glasgow, G40 8QZ.
