Pupils paint to promote food safety
Thursday, July 12th, 2007. Filed under Gorbals.School pupils across Glasgow have been involved in an art competition to help promote National Food Safety Week, organised by the Food and Drink Federation.
St Bartholomew’s Primary pupils were at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum’s KG café showing off their winning masks, representing food bugs. The theme of this year’s Food Safety Week was the ‘Four Cs’ – Cleanliness, Cooking, Chilling and Cross-contamination and pupils in pre-school, primary, special care and after-school care created art works from collages to ‘bug badges’ to masks and montages on the 4Cs theme.
Councillor Ruth Simpson, Executive Member for Land and Environmental Services said, ‘Schools across the city have been very enthusiastic about taking part as they all know how important it is to handle food properly. The lessons our pupils learn now about the 4Cs are all part of the package we offer in our schools to steer them towards a healthier life style.’
The winners were presented with certificates and food safety related prizes in the City Chambers. Staff from Glasgow City Council’s Land and Environmental Services Food Safety department were on hand at the City Chambers to hand out information and test visitors’ knowledge on food safety.
