Carnival mix was great success
Thursday, July 12th, 2007. Filed under Pollokshaws.People voted with their feet to make the 3rd Pollokshaws Carnival a great success.
‘We had between 700 and 800 people or more, here today,’ said Fiona Ferguson the community worker who led the team which organised the Pollokshaws Settlement and Integration Network’s day.
Events such as the rock climbing wall and the music tent were in Bengal Street Park. Other activities including workshops, children’s mask making, henna hand painting, drumming and the always popular face painting and bouncy castle were held in nearby venues including Pollokshaws Burgh Hall, Sir John Maxwell Primary School and Ash Tree Park. An art exhibition was on view in the Burgh Hall.
‘It is good to see people come together and enjoy themselves by mixing and mingling,’ said Fiona.
‘We held a lot of workshops beforehand to find out what people really wanted from the day and to get the maximum involvement. We hope, with appropriate funding, to be able to extend this successful integration work.’
