Queen’s men on the march
Friday, June 8th, 2007. Filed under - South Side. The Boys’ Brigade, Glasgow Battalion, held their annual presentation of Queen’s Badge Awards at Glasgow City Chambers on Thursday May 24.
Despite threatening weather throughout the day, rain held off and the Parade of Queen’s Men from Blythswood Square to the City Chambers took place as planned, drawing the keen attention of many onlookers. Music was provided by pipes and drums and other bands from Glasgow Companies.
The Very Reverend Alan Main, Brigade President, was Guest of Honour and took time to inspect the Queen’s Men outside the City Chambers. He chatted to them about their work and volunteer efforts. Nearly all the young men wore the new Brigade uniform and were a credit to the organisation and to themselves. In working towards the award, more than 7,000 hours of voluntary and community service had been recorded.
One Queen’s Badge holder is going off in June to run across the Gobi desert in aid of Madame Curie cancer research.Â
The voluntary service of these Queen’s Men was also recognised in the presentation of Millennium Volunteer Certificates. Each BB also gained ‘Heartstart’ Certification showing they are trained to resuscitate an individual who suffers heart failure.
The Presentation of Certificates took place in the glittering surroundings of the Banqueting Hall and the City provided a warm welcome and civic hospitality.
Musical entertainment for the evening was provided by King’s Park Brass Band. Further information on the Boys’ Brigade can be obtained from Eric Woodburn, Battalion Secretary. Tel: 0141 427 4051 email: eric@glasgowbattalion.plus.com
