Protesters lobby new Councillors
Friday, June 8th, 2007. Filed under - South Side.Home owners campaigning against Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) lobbied the newly elected Glasgow City Councillors at the entrance to the City Chambers on the day of the first Council meeting.
The group requested support for their campaign to be allowed to repay GHA over five years for work GHA carried out to re-clad their homes. GHA has insisted that owner occupiers repay within one year. Many people – particularly pensioners – are in despair at the prospect of being forced into debt, often for the first time in their life.Â
Sean Clerkin, of Glasgow Save Our Homes Campaign, said, ‘This five year repayment plan would at least give people a fighting chance to pay GHA’s imposed debt.’
Some of the new SNP Councillors meet with the protesters to discuss the issue. MSP Sandra White has also raised it in the Scottish Parliament.
The Campaign meets at 7pm every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at Glasgow Quality Inn (the former Central Hotel) at Central Station, Gordon Street. For further information see website: http://www.gsohc.co.uk.
