Heartbreaking theft

Friday, June 8th, 2007. Filed under Giffnock.

Police are appealing for information following a high value housebreaking in Giffnock between Monday 21 May and Thursday 24 May 2007.
Thieves raided a house in Greenwood Road, Giffnock, and stole the family safe.  As well as containing jewellery worth in excess of £50,000, the safe held pictures of the family’s youngest child, who died recently.

Detective Constable John McMonagle, Giffnock CID, is leading the enquiry.  He said, ‘Any break-in is distressing but on this occasion it was especially heartbreaking for the family who are still grieving at the loss of their infant son last month.

‘Recent photos of him, some of his baby jewellery and his birth and death certificates, were stolen, along with the other jewellery which was original and designed by the mother of the family.’

The family were away to recover a little from their son’s death when the break-in took place. The safe was very heavy and it would have needed a couple of people and possibly a van for it to be taken away.

Detectives are appealing for information especially on the location of the safe and its contents.
