Anti-sectarian and serious fun
Friday, June 8th, 2007. Filed under Gorbals.More than 88 children from Blackfriars and St. Francis Primary Schools in Gorbals came together last month to learn about Anti-Sectarianism.
Aged between 6 and 7, the youngsters took part in team building sports at Gorbals Leisure Centre. They included Uni-Hock, Tag-Rugby, Netball and Kung Fu. The afternoon involved a football tournament, with the winners taking away a ‘One Scotland’ T-shirt. During the day, presentations were given by Strathclyde Police and representatives of Nil By Mouth.
‘Excellent’ goodie bags were handed out containing items from the Scottish Executive, One Scotland, Nil By Mouth, Rangers and Celtic.
Sense over Sectarianism also provided a T-shirt for every child to wear on the day. Former Rangers player Colin Jackson presented the awards and a former Celtic ‘name’ was expected to attend too. ‘We thought Colin Jackson was a great choice as Rangers are celebrating their 35th Anniversary of winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup which was something he was a part of,’ said Matt Ramsay who led the team from the Glasgow College of Nautical Studies who arranged the day. ‘We have put a lot into organising the event to show we’re doing our bit to wipe out Sectarianism,’ said Matt.
