Raise funds walking the island way
Monday, March 5th, 2007. Filed under - Announcements. Most people know about the long distance path, The West Highland Way. But few have tackled the West ISLAND Way.
On Bute, this is a new, 30 mile, long-distance path around the beautiful island. Supporters of Momentum, the Scottish disability charity, have a chance to walk it in the company of Scotland’s leading walking guide, Fred Chatterton. He will be leading walkers in a weekend trek of the Way to raise funds for Momentum.
The charity is looking for groups or individuals to get sponsored and take part in the walk which takes place from Sunday13 to Tuesday 15 May.
Based in Rothesay, the route follows a figure of eight through some beautiful scenery remembered by many from childhood holidays. This is as easy a long-distance route as they come, but well worth walking. A mixture of excellent tracks, paths and some short roadside sections.
All transport is included and accommodation is provided in B&B’s in Rothesay. Places are limited for the event and have to be booked in advance. There is a deposit of £50 and each walker has to raise £250 in sponsorship for Momentum’s work with disabled and excluded people in Scotland.
