Nominations wanted for Castlemilk awards

Monday, March 5th, 2007. Filed under Castlemilk.

The search is on for Castlemilk Community Achievers. The deadline for nominations for the awards is Friday April 6 and information and nomination forms can be obtained from The Timebank – tel: 0141 631 1888 or email:Fiona.mcgovern@cassiltoun.org.uk.

Last year’s winners were Nicola Corral, (25), Young Person; Isa Bryer, Community Volunteer; Betty Ireland, Volunteer; Rev John Millar, Life Time Achievement. Anybody can be nominated for these awards in the four categories mentioned.

The Achievement ceremony will take place on the evening of Castlemilk’s annual Family Day on Saturday May 19.

The Family Day is becoming an enormous attraction with around 4000 people estimated to have attended last year. Plans are under way to make this year’s events bigger and better but sponsorship is urgently needed. With the demise of Castlemilk Community Forum both funding and people to organise the day vanished.

Cassiltoun Housing Association has lifted the baton and with Fiona McGovern leading, has set up two new management steering groups. ‘We would welcome new members to help co-ordinate the events as well as some sponsorship,’ said Fiona. The cost of the Day is in the region of £5000. So far, the community has raised £1000.

The annual Family Day is held at the Braes shopping centre and other locations around Castlemilk. Family fun activities range from bouncy castles to a climbing wall, from tarot card readings to beautician treatments, as well as many stalls offering advice and information.
