Dog attacks
Monday, March 5th, 2007. Filed under Ibrox. One man has been bitten and children and adults are being scared by an Alsatian dog running loose in an Ibrox tower block.
A local resident who cannot be named for fear of repercussions, told the LOCAL NEWS, ‘I had a lucky escape after managing to remove my hand from the Alsatian’s mouth. The dog lunged towards me and tried to bite me while I was walking at the bottom of the Iona Court block.’
This was the first time this resident had been bitten, though he said he’d faced many similar attacks by this dog and other dogs in his block.
He claims to have made 12 complaints over the past year to Clydeview Housing Partnership, who own and run the high rise blocks, but nothing has been done.
Others in the same block confirmed they, too, had complaints about dogs. One couple who have a young son said, ‘Our boy is too scared to play outside and when the big dog comes near him, he starts crying.’
Another couple stated that the constant barking and dogs urinating everywhere had been really bad but after complaining to Clydeview Housing Partnership, this had stopped.
A spokesperson for Clydeview said, ‘A housing officer met with the tenant concerned who assured us that they did not own the dog and that they would speak to the owner to ensure they would not bring it into the blocks again. However they have failed to comply with our requests and as a result it is now in the hands of our legal team. We are also looking into the other complaints received from other tenants and once we find the dogs’ owners we will act accordingly.’
When tenants move into multi-storey flats they agree not to bring dogs with them. So any tenant with a dog in their household is breaching their tenancy agreement. As a last resort, in that instance, the dog owner could be removed from their flat if they fail to comply with the regulations they’ve signed up to.
