Top dog award for show

Thursday, February 8th, 2007. Filed under Govan.

The ‘Every Dog Has Its Day’ Show, organised by Greater Govan Environment Trust last autumn, won the UK Groundbreaker Award.

The barking good event in Elder Park had dozens of local mutts strutting their stuff. Prizes for the ‘waggiest tail’ and ‘the dog the judges would most like to take home,’ attracted lots of paws for thought.

Ken Bussey, Environment Officer for Greater Govan said at the time that the aim of the day was to have fun. ‘We also want to get across the very serious message that every responsible dog owner cleans up after their pet.’

Supported by Glasgow City Council, Govan and District Dog Training Club and Strathclyde Police, the show is expected to be repeated this year.

The event was nominated for a CSV Make a Difference Day Award.

At a star studded event in London on Thursday February 1, the Greater Govan Environment Trust’s efforts were one of four final nominations in the ‘Best Ground-Breaking Event’ category.

When Trust Chairperson, Sarah Findlay phoned Ken from London to say they’d won, he was delighted. From his sickbed he told the LOCAL NEWS, ‘Winning is a great reflection on the endevours of all the good community people in Govan and on the support from the Council for the Trust’s work. I’m chuffed we’ve won! We simply do our best to help people improve their environment.’
