    Ronin Karate Club categories

    The Geoff Shaw Centre in Toryglen was the venue for the Scottish Itosu-Ryu  (Ronin Karate) Club Championships.
    Clubs from Stonelaw, Toryglen, Govanhill, Pollokshields, Sighthill and Fernhill sent competitiors to the event which was more like a gala day with 300 parents attending.

    The association now has its own trained officials experienced at running such competitions. The volunteers come from club members and some parents who have all gone through rigorous training to reach the standard required.
    With 20 separate categories and over 120 children competing at both kata and kumite disciplines, it was always going to be a busy day.

    Every contestant wins something in both events.

    Space limits the number of prize winners the LOCAL NEWS can publish. We hope to carry the remainder in March. Prizewinners were:

    Category 1: C. Atkins (Pollokshields) gold, O. Kinross ( Pollokshields) silver, J. Findlay (Fernhill) bronze, U. Uruthiriaumgum (Sighthill) bronze.

    Category 2: A. Pearson (Fernhill) gold, C. Graham, (Govanhill) silver, E. Alexander (Govanhill) bronze, E. Graham ; (Govanhill) bronze.

    Category 3: C. Burns ( Stonelaw) gold, C. Wright (Toryglen) silver, M. Sweeney (Govanhill) bronze, J. Douglas (Toryglen) bronze.

    Category 4: J. Brown (Fernhill) gold, R. Findlay (Fernhill) silver, D. McCormack (Toryglen) bronze, K. McGrath (Govanhill) bronze.

    Category 5: T. Patterson (Govanhill) gold, I. Miller (Stonelaw) silver, S. Mullen (Govanhill) bronze, C. Blair (Govanhill) bronze.

    Category 6: H. McVey (Govanhill) gold, K. McHugh (Fernhill) silver, N. Kerr (Pollokshields) bronze, C. Askin (Govanhill)bronze.

    Category 7: R. Buchanan (Govanhill) gold, D. Ashe (Toryglen) silver, N. Silvestro (Toryglen) bronze, M. Liggat (Toryglen) bronze.

    Category 8: T. Patterson (Govanhill) gold, S. Trawavas (Sighthill) silver, F. Edwards (Toryglen) bronze, D. Hewitt (Toryglen) bronze.
