Thursday, February 8th, 2007. Filed under Kinning Park.

After a devastating fire and almost four years in temporary accommodation, Kinning Park Nursery School has finally found a new home in Lorne Street, along with Festival Park Day Nursery.

The £1.8 million purpose built building was completed within 15 months and can accommodate 120 children on two floors.

Head teacher Christine Black, said at the opening on Wednesday January 31, ‘We are absolutely delighted with our new home. Both the children and staff really love the new school, which has much better facilities.’

Their former Scotland Street West premises burned down in November 2002, destroying all the pupils’ Christmas presents.

At the opening celebration, Deputy Lord Provost, Bailie Christine Devine said she was pleased with the quality and safety aspects of the school.

Local Councillor, Shaukat Butt who worked tirelessly to secure the new building, added, ‘I am really happy the nursery school and the day nursery now have this superb building.’

The new school is part of the city council’s pre-12 strategy which will see all nursery and primary schools in the city renewed or rebuilt.

Amanda Kelly, head teacher of Festival Park Day Nursery declared she was very happy with the new surroundings.
