Murder charge
Thursday, February 8th, 2007. Filed under Govanhill.Thirty one year old Robert Kelly of Jamieson Street, Govanhill has been charged with the murder of Nessa Mechen, the local credit agent who disappeared on 30 August 2002 on her regular round.
He appeared on petition at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday 29 January and a full committal was fixed for Tuesday 6 February.
Mr Kelly is accused of murdering the 62-year-old grandmother in his flat on 30 August 2002. He is also charged with perverting the course of justice by burying Mrs Mechen’s body under floorboards and concealing her with bricks and wood.
He was also charged with perverting the course of justice over claims that on 30 November 2002 he threatened to kill and bury Angela McKeown if she told police about the alleged murder. Bail was refused and he has been remanded in custody.
