    It’s a pic-up for junk-it

Thursday, February 8th, 2007. Filed under - South Side.

A brave company has set up in business in Glasgow to do something the City Council does free – pick up large household items which are being thrown out.

‘The advantage of our service at Junk-It is that we will provide the muscle to shift bulky items out of homes,’ explained Davie Malcolm, managing partner who reckons such a commercial operation will expand in the next five years so that the company will be running 12 trucks and can start franchising.

Based in Pollokshields, the bright yellow Junk-It Canter vehicle and liveried attendants, will go anywhere in the city to pick up unwanted household items and dispose of them correctly.  The SEPA registered firm also recycles over 60% of material to local centres so giving their customers the assurance of doing their bit for the environment.

Davie, with business partner Ross Martin, is passionate about re-cycling. ‘We chose the vehicle because it was the ideal size to transport unwanted household items from Glasgow tenements,’ said Davie. ‘The body can also be tipped for off-loading bulky waste.’
