Children exploring their own environment brought an inspiring exhibition World Beneath My Feet to the Tramway last month.

Arts organisation Giant worked with the 10-11 year-old pupils of thee schools – Drummore Primary on the Galloway coast, Forth Primary in rural South Lanarkshire and Ruchill Primary and communication Disorder Unit in urban Glasgow.

‘We took time to look at the environment around each school,’ said Christine Muir of Giant Centre for Inclusive Arts. ‘The children explored to see what they could find.’

The result was a fascinating exhibition of the creative outcomes of the children’s research. Said Joseph, ‘This is something to be proud of,’ referring to his funny film clip showing people and chairs vanishing. Gary thought it was ‘exciting,’ to go and look at vegetation and the surroundings. Mark was content with his models of people and things made from outdoor materials. Because the schools communicated electronically and by postcard they learned about each other. Rhys said it was ‘good because it lets others know how we live.’

Glasgow based Giant – which recently won a major arts award for its innovative work – is now looking for funding to develop the project.
