Shawlands indecent assault

Thursday, January 11th, 2007. Filed under Shawlands.

Police in Cathcart are appealing for witnesses to the indecent assault of a 27 year-old woman in Shawlands’ Deanston Drive on Wednesday December 13.

The woman was returning home from work at around 10.30pm when a man in a red Berghaus jacket and black tracksuit bottoms grabbed her by the shoulder and indecently assaulted her. Her attacker is described as white, in his early 30s, around 5ft 7-8 with short gingery-brown hair and sharp features.

Detective Sergeant Debbie Johnstone is appealing for witnesses to come forward. She said, ‘The woman first noticed the man as she waited for the number 38 bus in Renfield Street in the city centre. He got on the same bus as her and got off at the same stop in Kilmarnock Road, following her through Mount Stuart Street and into Deanston Drive, where he assaulted her. The victim screamed and the attacker quickly ran down Strathyre Street. Although she did not require hospital treatment, she has been left badly shaken by the ordeal. I would like to hear from anybody who was on the bus, which was very busy, or from anyone who has any information that may help our enquiry. Please contact Cathcart Police Office on 0141 532 4900 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where details can be given anonymously.’
