Larkfield lights up
Thursday, January 11th, 2007. Filed under Govanhill.Govanhill’s Larkfield Centre lit up at Christmastime, and these are the people that made it happen.
Jim Howie, electrical engineer for Glasgow City Council, had responsibility for designing and setting up 35 sites across the City. He planned the 25ft tree outside the Larkfield and the surrounding illuminations in Millennium Square.
Councillor Ann Marie Millar orchestrated the evening, which included Fireworks from Midnight Storm’s Colin McNair.
The official lighting up ceremony was carried out by local youth worker Atta Yacub who starred in the film ‘Ae Fond Kiss’. Among the Tram Theatre actors who presented ‘A Victorian Christmas’ as part of the evening’s entertainment is Colin McGowan Jr. He has been cast as Noah in the Lyric Club’s production of Oliver in the Theatre Royal in February. Through his involvement with Tram Theatre and the Gorbals Youth and Community Theatre, Colin has decided on an acting career and aims to secure a place in a drama school in August.
Joe Cairns, Larkfield Centre Chairman (second left) welcomed guests on the evening and thanked all who had made the event such a success. Said Councillor Millar, ‘This was a magical evening. It was good to see people out and enjoying themselves.’
The new Mega club for youngsters aged from 5 to 12 starts on Thursday 11 Jan at 6.30pm till 8.30pm and promises fun.
