Crookston’s Londis store won the ‘Excellence in Food to Go’ award in this year’s annual Robert Wiseman Dairies Neighbourhood Shop of the Year awards.

Staff at the Crookston Road business were celebrating at the eleventh annual awards ceremony in St Andrews after seeing off thousands of competing local shops.

Manager Naeem Javid told the LOCAL NEWS, ‘I’m very happy. Next year the store will be trying hard to win the main award - Neighbourhood Shop of the Year.’

Stores are nominated by their customers. After nomination, the store underwent a rigorous judging process involving a mystery shopper and a personal visit from independent national judge Jim Botterill and a Wiseman’s Dairies representative.

Mr Botterill said, ‘It has been a tremendous honour and an enjoyable experience to visit all of the nominated stores across the UK. I want to extend my congratulations and gratitude to the staff at Londis Crookston who provided such a warm welcome and an excellent level of service, and commend them on being very worthy winners.’

Sandy Wilkie, Director of Sales and Marketing for Robert Wiseman Dairies said, ‘The Neighbourhood Shop of the Year Awards are a testament to the public’s commitment and undivided support for the local convenience store. It is fantastic to see that the local shop still remains the mainstay of so many communities. The fact that we are still receiving so many nominations in our eleventh year of the competition is testament to the importance of the convenience sector. We are delighted to recognise the achievements of Londis Crookston and all the winning stores.’
