Shelter advice
Thursday, November 30th, 2006. Filed under Pollokshields.Pollokshields has a new advice service for the black and minority ethnic community.
The East Pollokshields Project, launched by Cathy Jamieson MSP and funded by Glasgow City Council, aims to provide Glasgow’s ethnic minorities with advice about their housing rights.
Glasgow Shelter Housing Aid Centre (GSHAC) set up the project after a Communities Scotland report found that black and minority ethnic communities lacked knowledge on where to go for advice, especially when living in the private rented sector.
Ailie Doyle, GSHAC Area Manager, told the LOCAL NEWS, ‘This service is something I would like to see expanded across the city.’Â
Archie Stoddart, Director of Shelter Scotland, said, ‘Research shows there is a real need to provide a specific service for black and minority ethnic communities in Glasgow and we are delighted to have been able to respond to this.’
Shelter set up the Housing Advice Surgery at 100 McCulloch Street. It is open every Tuesday afternoon from 12 to 3pm.
