Lambhill residents stand
Thursday, November 30th, 2006. Filed under Kinning Park.More than 100 residents and staff in Kinning Park’s Lambhill Court Care Home stood up against poverty as part of a worldwide event in October.
The Southsiders joined millions of people across the globe in the ‘Stand Up for the Millennium Goals’ weekend. Organised by the United Nations Millennium Campaign the Stand Up was to remind world leaders of the promises they made in 1989 to eradicate poverty by 2015.
The Lambhill Court ‘Stand Up’ was organised by the care home’s Managing Director, Sunita Poddar. Mrs Poddar was inspired to get involved by yogi (teacher) Baba Ramdev whom she met in India earlier this year. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan invited Mr Ramdev to be part of the global event.
Mrs Poddar said, ‘The Yogi made me aware of the poverty problem. If we are able people and if we can make a difference, then why not? If we don’t do it, then who will?’
