Holybrook Green
Thursday, November 30th, 2006. Filed under Govanhill.Hollybrook School in Govanhill is the first in Glasgow to achieve the ‘Green Flag’ for their environmental friendly ways.
At a celebration recently, they flew the new flag outside in the grounds where the pupils enjoy regular sessions cultivating their own green space. ‘We did not expect to get this till next year,’ commented Head Teacher Mary Farrell.
Leading environmentalist Danny Lowe takes the gardening classes which encourage the pupils who have a range of mild special needs, to care for their immediate environment.
Said Danny, ‘In the six years I’ve been working in Glasgow on environmental projects, this is the first school I’ve ever been involved with. Gaining your Green Flag is a massive achievement. And we’ve had a great time doing it!’
Under his tuition the pupils are improving the garden area which surrounds the school and aim to have a willow bower growing by next summer.
