Grinding in the health mill

Thursday, November 30th, 2006. Filed under Castlemilk.

Margaret Millmaker a volunteer in Castlemilk who has been publicly recognised for her unstinting service to the people of the area, has been outspoken about the changes in the National Health Services following the introduction of Community Health and Care Partnerships. (CH & CP).

‘It is the end of an era,’ she said.

On the Board of the South East CH & CP, she told Board members at their November meeting in St Francis Centre, Gorbals, ‘It has taken a while for me, personally, to accept the changes. Before, Castlemilk responded to the needs of the community directly. Now, while existing projects will continue, there will be less opportunity for such kind of development work. However, I am hopeful that we can still serve the community.’

Chair for nine years of Healthy Castlemilk and a founder of the Health Spot, Margaret was also the first chairperson of Castlemilk Stress Centre.
