Club boss shot
Thursday, November 30th, 2006. Filed under Clarkston.Police enquires are continuing into the shooting of nightclub boss Eddie Tobin at his home in Clarkston.
The Scottish chairman of the Bar Entertainment and Dance Association and head of Glasgow Nightclub Forum was shot in the legs when he answered the front door of his bungalow in Mearns Road.
Mr Tobin (60) was treated at Hairmyres hospital in East Kilbride but is now since returned home. Friends and associates say he is recovering well.
Police are treating the incident as attempted murder and interviewed people in the area exactly one week after the shooting to try to ‘jog the memory’ of possible witnesses.
The suspect ran from the scene. He was described as white, 5ft 9 tall and of a medium build. Strathclyde Police said, ‘He was wearing a dark-coloured hooded jacket with the hood up and an inner hooded jacket with the hood up. The inner-hooded jacket is described as quilted and shiny. He wore dark trousers, dark shirt and dark shoes.’
Detective Sergeant Willie Corkindale is leading the investigation. He said, ‘Anyone who has information is asked to contact CID at Giffnock Police Office on 0141 532 5700. Alternatively calls can be made via crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.’
Mr Tobin is currently the head of Cleaning Scotland Ltd, a company he set up last year, which employs 100 people. The married businessman used to run the Upfront Group, the UK’s biggest provider of security services to the bar, nightclub and entertainment industries.
