Pictures and paintings by Southside schoolchildren  have been selected for inclusion in Glasgow City’s 2007 Schools Calendar.

Dilexan Francis Aloysius, Helen Walker and Noelle Begono Mauze were among the 13 pupils chosen from over 1000 to have their work reproduced in the calendar which is distributed to every school and council office in the city.

The pupils received a certificate at a ceremony in the Mitchell Library, where their winning efforts are on display until January 10.

Dilexan (12), goes to Holyrood Secondary, but created his colourful felt-tip drawing while still at St John’s Primary in Gorbals. He said that the painting took him around two days to do and that he was ‘jumping around mad’ when he found out he had won.

Noelle (16), a pupil at Shawlands Academy pupil, had her striking still life included. She said that the piece, which took her six hours to complete, was one of her prelim exam pieces. Noelle would like to study architecture after leaving school.

Fellow Shawlands Academy student, Helen Walker, won with her painting of a country cottage. Helen said, ‘This was for my prelims. I normally do portraiture and only got a two for it!’
