A used magic carpet
Thursday, November 30th, 2006. Filed under Govan. As many households prepare to re-vamp for Christmas remember Spruce Carpets in Govan is always looking for quality carpets to recycle.
The award-winning charity cleans and refurbishes carpets and sells them on to people who could not, otherwise, afford such floor covering. Business Manager Marissa Lippiatt (pictured third left) said, ‘When people see the carpets we have on offer, they really do think it’s magic as they say they wouldn’t have known they were used.’
In the first year of operation the company received more than 409 carpets which were being disgarded by their original owners and managed to processed 80% of them for use again.
This diverted 20 tonnes of waste from landfill and won a national award for innovation from Community Recycling Network Scotland.
During Open Day in September the community enterprise held a raffle to win a carpet.
The winning ticket was pulled from the entries by MSP Nicola Sturgeon and the prize went to Mrs Una McLellan who intended gifting it to her nephew.
Based in 308 Broomloan Road, Spruce Carpets can be reached by phone on: 0141 425 1555 or through their website: www.sprucecarpet.org.uk.
