Operation Folklore
Thursday, October 12th, 2006. Filed under Castlemilk, Cathcart.Police raided addresses in Castlemilk and Cathcart as part of an international series of drugs raids, headed by Scotland’s elite crime agency, the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency (SCDEA).Â
Part of an ongoing operation, the raids also visited addresses in East Kilbride, Burnside and Amsterdam searched by SCDEA officers, supported by Strathclyde and Dutch National Police officers. Police now have eight men and three women in custody, all of whom are Scottish, charged with offences under the 1971 Misuse of Drugs Act.
Detective Chief Superintendent Stephen Ward, SCDEA Crime Co-ordinator, said, ‘Organised crime is led by ruthless and dangerous individuals who seek to make profit from the pain and suffering of the most vulnerable people in our communities. The public rightly expect our response to this to be co-ordinated and robust. Today’s operation is an excellent example of close working with our national and international law enforcement partners to protect Scotland from the damage organised criminals seek to cause to our society. With the ongoing support of our politicians, the public and our law enforcement partners, the SCDEA will continue to work hard to ensure that Scotland’s communities are protected from the misery created by organised crime.’
Police seized controlled substances, documents, cash and vehicles in the raids, planned for three months. Following a petition hearing, three of the men have been remanded in custody. The other six people arrested have been granted bail.
