It has re-branded to reflect the wider area it now covers, encompassing Newlands and Pollokshaws. This adds a population of 15,000 people, bringing the total population of EQUIP’s catchment area to 53,850, increasing the potential workforce by 9000 people.

The recruitment facility was originally set up to serve the construction workers building Silverburn, Glasgow’s biggest shopping centre. The recruitment centre will employ specialist recruitment advisors and house a dedicated call centre.

Bill Munsie, EQUIP’s Managing Director, said, ‘This is a time of major activity for EQUIP. Towards a billion pounds is being invested in new housing and business spaces. The major re-development of Pollok shopping centre is nearing completion and new health and leisure services are being introduced. This adds up to one big life-changing opportunity for local people. EQUIP encourages people to grab it, be part of it and make a success of their lives. EQUIP offers free assistance with guidance, training, employment and business support as we continue capitalising on the excellent employment opportunities in South-West Glasgow.’
The company anticipates 30,000 job enquires at the new recruitment centre, and estimates 5000 jobs will be created in the area in the next 10 years.
Glasgow City Council Leader, Steven Purcell, said, ‘It’s vital that we get as many people into work as we can. This will not only bring enormous benefits to them but also to their families and communities. The current level of public and private investment in South West Glasgow means we have the best chance in a generation to tackle many of the problems we have faced for too long in this city. Local development companies are playing a vital role in all this work. EQUIP is a key part of the team helping to change the future prospects of Glaswegians.’
The company has helped thousands of people into work and assisted around 200 small businesses to ‘start-up, grow and develop’ since 2000.
