Community groups in the Southside are being invited to set Shawlands Co-op a challenge to make a difference to the community.

Staff from the Shawlands store dressed up in builder’s gear to launch the Co-op’s Community Challenge volunteering initiative.

A local group nominates a challenge – such as painting a community centre or cleaning up a local beauty spot – and Co-op staff and members provide the labour and materials to do the job.

Shawlands Co-op manager Henry Jackson said, ‘Scottish Co-op staff and members are ready for action and really looking forward to getting stuck in to help make a difference to the community. All we need now is for local groups to set us a challenge.’

Anyone with a challenge for the Co-op can pick up an application form in the store in Kilmarnock Road.
