Good health at Hampden
Thursday, September 14th, 2006. Filed under - South Side.A unique chance to have your say on local health and care service comes up on Tuesday September 12.
In Hampden Park from 10am till 7pm an Open Day is being run by the newly established Community Health and Care Partnership (CHCP) for South East Glasgow.
The CHCP wants to hear from local people and invites everyone interest to come along and share their thoughts on how best services are delivered in the South East area.
Established earlier this year, the CHCP has responsibility for developing and delivering health and social care which, traditionally, was provided and managed by Glasgow City Council’s Social Work Services and by the NHS Primary Care Trust. This means the new body is responsible for all kinds of services including health visits, community nurses, school nurses, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, foot care, some support services for children with a range of needs, home care service assessment, drug and alcohol services, mental health services and learning disabilities.
Bailie Alan Stewart who chairs the South East Glasgow CHCP, said, ‘This area has different health care needs from other parts of the city. Now we have an organisation that will listen to local people and look after those needs.’
Cathie Cowan is Director of the CHCP. She said, ‘We want to be proactive – anticipating future health and social care demands and responding with services designed by people for people. I believe that together we can improve health, tackle inequalities and sustain the level of social renewal already evident across the area.’
There are 11 local CHCPs in the Glasgow and Clyde area. The South East Glasgow one covers Gorbals, Toryglen, Govanhill, Pollokshields, Shawlands, King’s Park, Croftfoot and Castlemilk.
People can drop in to the Hampden event at any time. But if they are at the Open Day for 1pm they can witness the launch of the new Public Partnership Forum. This allied new body gives people who use the services locally, carers, community and voluntary groups and the public a chance to get involved in the CHCP. This will be done when the Forum elects two community representatives who will become full committee members of CHCP and sit on that authority’s Board.
More than 50 information stalls will be there offering everything from free blood pressure, weight and cholesterol checks to health MOTs.
There will also be a special prize raffle and drama performances throughout the day.
