Take the CRE8 bus to the future

Saturday, August 12th, 2006. Filed under - South Side, Govan.

Govan Initiative’s new CRE8 bus will soon be taking to the streets of Southwest Glasgow. The gleaming new vehicle, packed full of high tech equipment, will be ready for action by early September.

‘CRE8 is all about community engagement,’ commented John Currie, Govan Initiative’s Executive Officer for youth engagement. ‘We’re aiming to get out into the community and connect young people to employment and training programmes – and CRE8 bus is an excellent way of achieving this. We’ll be giving young people access to the internet, to PCs and, probably most importantly, providing a focal point where they can get together with other young people in a safe environment.’

Govan Initiative sees CRE8 as an ideal method of increasing opportunities for education and employment for local young people – and it’s not the only new attraction for youngsters on the streets of Southwest Glasgow.

‘As well as the CRE8 bus, we’re also launching a a street football programme,’ said John Currie.

‘Again, we are going out into the community, this time we’ll be providing a portable soccer arena system, which is quick and easy to dismantle, weather resistant, maintenance free and suitable for both indoor and outdoor usage.

As well as football, the system is equipped for sports such as netball, basketball, hockey and touch rugby.

We’ll be bringing along fully qualified coaches to ensure that as well as providing an enjoyable activity, young people will be able to develop their sports and team skills.’
