Southwest is working
Saturday, August 12th, 2006. Filed under - South Side, Govan.Govan Initiative’s new ‘Southwest Working’ project aims to provide vital support for people across southwest Glasgow looking for employment. Based in state-of-the-art premises in Lammermuir Avenue, Cardonald, the 15-strong team offers a wide range of services tailored to client requirements including guidance, training, assistance with job search, CV building, access to childcare provision and ongoing support once a job has been secured.
Ivonne Hamilton, who heads up the team, commented, ‘Southwest Working is a really exciting new project – and it’s radically different from anything Govan Initiative has done in the past.
‘Already, in the two months we’ve been in business, we’ve provided support for over 80 residents, ten of whom have secured jobs. We’re aiming to build on this early success.
‘We operate on a one-to-one basis, with our team working intensively with clients to provide the best possible support package. The overall aim is to get people into jobs – but also to ensure they’ve got all the skills and support they need to get themselves job-ready and to sustain the job.’
