Salmon’s fate is sealed
Saturday, August 12th, 2006. Filed under - Top Stories, Gorbals.A seal was spotted snacking on a salmon in the River Clyde just below the Victoria Bridge in Gorbals on Thursday August 3. Billy Hamilton, was on his way home from his work when he saw the mammal.
Billy (39) said, ‘It totally took me aback. I saw the big head come out of the water with a massive salmon in its mouth. The two guys standing beside me said that the seal comes up the river every year and they watch it from their flat beside the Adelphi Centre.’
Kenny Boyle, head of Parks for Glasgow City Council, told the LOCAL NEWS that seals have been coming up the river for the past couple of years as the river has been getting cleaner. He said, ‘The seals follow the salmon as far as the weir at Dalmarnock.’
