Live with Loretta’s music review

Saturday, August 12th, 2006. Filed under - Announcements, - South Side.

As the Local News celebrates its 100th issue, it’s time to take a quick look back at some of the bands we’ve featured in my music column in that time. Mixing the new with the established, we have brought interviews from Del Amitri, Deep Purple, Deacon Blue. We’ve featured Lulu, The Beautiful South, Morrisey and Texas. But is the undiscovered talent we are always most interested in.

Of the new bands, unsigned acts and undiscovered talent, the first to make contact with me was Helder Melo and his band Melo Evolution. He started by busking in the streets of Glasgow and progressed to bars then appeared on TV’s Room at the Top.
From there we covered Hung Drawn and Quartet – a Jazz band from Kinning Park; Kane - a Southside rock band we caught up with at Nice and Sleazys; singer-song writer Tippi; Gorbals-based band Kempes; Southsiders; My Shotgun Sister and Glasgow Band, Biffy Clyro.

So what are you up to now? This is your chance to get in touch with me at the Local News. This column can tell the Southside where you’re at, when your next gig is or what CD your bringing out. Email me on: localnews@btconnect.com
