King’s Park play day

Saturday, August 12th, 2006. Filed under - South Side, King's Park.

KING’S PARK residents could feature on a local version of Big Brother. At the Big Family Fun Day being run in King’s Park on Saturday August 19, a Diary tent will be in operation with a giant screen outside for people to watch the participants in action. Other less usual events will be Highland Dancing and Martial Arts as well as the regular bouncy castle provided by King’s Park and Croftfoot Community Council. Glasgow City Council’s famous Clydesdale horses and dray will ferry people around. Said local Councillor Margot Clark, ‘The Park is a positive community resource and is about the only thing we have so we’ll be making the best use of it on August 19.’

Attempts to start a Friday night club in the area to counter youth disorder problems, foundered when only two young people turned up at the school where 19 youth workers were waiting for the crowds. Now a ‘Junior Friends of King’s Park’ scheme is being drafted with local community activists including local Councillor Margo Clark.
