Aikenhead mansion in King’s Park is 200 years old. The 14 households now resident in the grand building, threw a party to celebrate the double centenary.Said one owner, Scott J. Macdonald-Anderson, ‘We are very proud to call this our home and hope to enjoy it for years to come.’

Andrew and Mil Lobanov-Rostovsky have the longest connection to the propety. ‘Our son came here soon after it was converted into luxury flats. He went to a party just like our 200th one, and met Donna, the girl next door. They got married and when they had to move from Glasgow they said they didn’t want to leave the place so we swopped houses!’

The enormous property was built in 1806 for John Gordon a prominent Glasgow Tory and merchant who made his money in the West Indies. In recent times it has been used to house the treasures of the Burrell Collection before the Burrell Gallery was built, a tea room, a costume museum and a mapping station for anti-aircraft guns during World War 2.
