A spokesperson for Glasgow City Council said, ‘An unused and derelict part of the Tramway complex was found to be in a dangerous condition and a controlled demolition was put into operation. The demolition and clear-up works are expected to last just over a week, and the road closures will remain in place for the duration.’

Scottish Ballet is moving its operations to the Pollokshields art venue in 2008. A spokesperson said, ‘This does not impact on our proposed plans to create a new home for Scottish Ballet at Tramway and we remain committed to creating a unique multi-arts production and presentation centre on a scale unrivalled in the UK. We are aware that the gable end of the Tramway on Pollokshaws Road has partially collapsed and have been reassured that there is no risk to local residents or staff. Our planning application is currently with Glasgow City Council for consideration.’
