Big noise reduced to a peep
Saturday, August 12th, 2006. Filed under - South Side, Gorbals.Gorbals’ Big Noise project is closing its doors after two years in the area. The project’s funding, which came from a variety of sources including Reed in Partnership and Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, has come to an end. Based in the Creation Zone in Luke’s Place, the project was due to move out of the premises rented by Impact Arts, this month.
The project, which taught video and music production skills for four hours a week to long-term unemployed adults in Gorbals, had around 30 regular students at any one time. Alongside the technical skills, participants could also create a CV and build their confidence.
Andy Kennedy, tutor consultant for the Big Noise Project, said, ‘I think that the project has been an innovative one that has tried to educate people in an innovative way. We asked people to develop an idea rather than simply teaching them skills. I’m very proud of all the students who have come through the door, and I’m looking forward to the production of our DVD containing work from students.’
Andy added that he would like to leave what he called a ‘legacy’ in the area by providing a studio in the Gorbals Library with video editing and music production hardware and software for the local community to use after the project has closed.
Andy and his partner in the Big Noise project are currently trying to secure new funding to continue their work in the Southside.
