B & Q it at the Hidden Garden
Saturday, August 12th, 2006. Filed under - South Side, Pollokshields.Pollokshields’ Hidden Gardens Trust has won £5000 worth of B&Q products in the company’s ‘You Can Do It’ scheme.
The Trust was one of 21 entries successfully shortlisted from over 2000.
Linda MacDonald of The Hidden Gardens Trust said, ‘We’re absolutely delighted to have won this award. The renovations we are going to undertake will make a real difference to our facilities and we cannot wait to get started.’
The Trust, a ‘social and environmental regeneration project’, transformed the wasteland behind the Tramway in Albert Drive, into a public green space and permanent community resource in 2003. Since then, over 2500 people have attended gardening, cookery and arts and crafts workshops in the Gardens.
The money will be used to create a composting area that will help the community learn about the environment and how to recycle household waste. It will still provide raised planters suitable for children and users with disabilities to teach them how to grow their own produce to be used in cookery workshops.
B&Q Store Manager Paul McClean said, ‘I am thrilled that an organisation in our local area is one of the 21 chosen to win an award. Here at the store, we can really help to make a difference by supplying the required materials, and offering support and guidance to the project.’
